Youth clubs and community organisations participating in VIY are, in most cases, identified by the regional and national youth organisations with which VIY partners across the UK.
The opportunity to get involved is promoted to all youth clubs and other organisations via these regional and national networks, with organisations wishing to participate completing an initial expression of interest and then undergoing an assessment visit and interview. Selection is made according to each organisations’s level of need, appetite to participate and level of connectivity within their community, as well as the make up of their membership and the quality of their youth workers and club leaders.
VIY was initially piloted in 2011 in south London in two club buildings managed by Streatham Youth and Community Trust. Since then, the programme has been extended to more than 60 youth clubs throughout England and Wales, and profiles on each of these clubs and completed VIY projects are given below.
For the new phase of VIY, new community organisations across the UK will be given the chance to take part.
